Background:
Fan earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marquette
University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Marquette
University and a Bachelor of Arts in Intelligence Studies from American Military
University.
Throughout her training, Fan received extensive clinical experience in inpatient
behavioral health settings and neuropsychological assessment, working with children,
adolescents, adults, and older adults across the lifespan. Her professional background
includes providing services to high-risk adults experiencing depression, severe and
persistent mental illness, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety-related
disorders, and complex life stressors. She also has experience supporting couples and
families in addressing relationship challenges, communication difficulties, and
adjustment concerns.
Fan has received specialized training in working with military service members,
veterans, and military families. She understands the unique cultural, occupational, and
transitional challenges that can accompany military service and is committed to
providing culturally responsive and evidence-based care. Fan approaches therapy with
warmth, empathy, and genuine respect for each individual’s lived experiences. She
strives to foster a therapeutic environment grounded in trust, collaboration, and
unconditional positive regard, empowering clients to build on their strengths, overcome
obstacles, and create meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
Therapeutic Approach
Fan takes an integrated, strength-based approach to therapy that emphasizes
collaboration, authenticity, and the development of a strong therapeutic alliance. She
believes that each client possesses unique strengths, resilience, and personal
resources that can be utilized to overcome challenges and achieve meaningful growth.
Drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy,
and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Fan tailors treatment to meet the
individual needs, values, and goals of each client.
When working with military service members, veterans, and their families, Fan
recognizes the unique experiences, cultural values, and challenges associated with
military life. She prioritizes active listening, trust-building, and maintaining strict
confidentiality to create a safe space where clients feel understood and respected. Fan
understands that many military-affiliated individuals may be hesitant to seek mental health services due to concerns about stigma, career implications, or previous negative experiences with treatment. As such, she strives to foster an environment of openness,
respect, and cultural humility while honoring each client’s experiences and personal strengths.
