Dr. Nishad Nadkarni is a General and Forensic psychiatrist with over eighteen years of experience, and a diplomate in both disciplines through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Dr. Nadkarni was born and raised in suburban Chicago, IL. After graduating in 1988 from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Economics, Dr. Nadkarni worked in the field of advertising and marketing research for six years. He then shifted careers into medicine, and graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1998 with a Doctor in Medicine (M.D.), prior to completing a residency in General Psychiatry at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke Medical Center in Chicago in 2002.
After two years in private clinical practice, Dr. Nadkarni subsequently worked at Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago for the next fifteen years, performing over four thousand criminal forensic psychiatric evaluations and testifying over six hundred times in court. He formalized his forensic credentials by completing a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI in 2010 and receiving Board Certification in Forensic Psychiatry in 2011. He subsequently performed
several hundred private evaluations in the civil forensic psychiatric arena, with a concentration in Guardianship issues and testamentary capacity, among other realms including Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) and Disability reviews.
In the field of General Psychiatry, Dr. Nadkarni has broad experience treating late adolescents and adults for psychotropic medication management and brief psychotherapy in diverse environments, including outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient
(PHP/IOP), hospital consultation-liaison services, and nursing homes. In addition to assessments in the criminal and civil arenas in Forensic Psychiatry, and subsequent provision of expert-witness testimonies and depositions, Dr. Nadkarni has experience in direct treatment for restoration to trial competency of criminal defendants on a maximum-security unit of a forensic hospital in Wisconsin.
